Studying at the Islamic Economics School aims at providing the student with Islamic economic education to deepen his knowledge in Islamic economics. This enables him to study in the field of banks and Islamic financial establishments and various international and regional Islamic organizations. Also, it helps to prepare the researches and studies in the field of Islamic economics and supervises various research projects in this concern.
Islamic economic school grants the following scientific degrees:
1- Master degree in Islamic economics in one of the following sub-majors: economics, administration, quality, finance and banks, accountancy.
2- Doctorate degree (PHD)in Islamic economics in one of the sub-majors: economics, administration, quality, finance and banks, accountancy.
The Islamic economics school at PHU is interested in developing its curricula for these scientific degrees and makes the scientific performance resemble the distinguished levels of deep-rooted universities taking into consideration the nature of open-learning universities.
Study Method:
Assignments can be prepared under the supervision of professor of main and optional curricula and the assignment mark can be determined and declared in a seasonal report to the school's administration.
When finishing the main and optional curricula and getting the necessary success mark, a scientific research thesis is prepared under the supervision of a professor agreed-upon the school's administration.
After getting the success mark of the thesis, the university is informed by the whole report of the student in order to give him/her the certificate.
The following are the terms of admission, study and curricula adopted of various scientific degrees:
Master degree requirements for those having a university degree:
The students accepted in this program should have degrees with a good grade according to the majors clarified beside each one. The student obtains the Master degree after studying (33) units accredited as follows:
1- Studying (24) units adopted from syllabi's list.
2- A university thesis of (9) units accredited.
In case the university degree is below good grade, the student can study additional researches to enable him adjust his status.
Doctorate degree requirements for those having a master degree:
Those who have the Master degree in Islamic economics from a university other than PHU are to study subjects determined by the department. Then the student prepares the doctorate thesis soon which equals (54) accredited units. If the student has a Master degree of a different major, he has to study (54) accredited units as follows:
1- Studying (24) accredited units of the curriculum list.
2- A knowledge competence test.
3- A university thesis of (30) accredited units.
General conditions regarding Master and Doctorate degrees:
· The student shall have % 65 out of every syllabus to be considered successful.
· The department council shall approve the thesis topic presented by the student to register this thesis; provided that the student encloses his research plan to be forwarded to the council to be adopted. The department council shall appoint the supervising professor(s) responsible for following up the research preparation.
· The student cannot obtain the Master degree before three years of registration for the degree, while Doctorate degree not before two years of registration.
· It is stipulated to form the board of discussion and arbitration of the thesis that the student has /450/ grades at least in the TOEFL or what it is equivalent if the research requires that.
· The student's registration for Master and Doctorate degrees will be cancelled if he does not get the degree within /4/ years after registering. Also, the department council is entitled to retain the registration period longer.
· The supervising professor presents a report about the student's advancement in the research preparation and his entitlement to continue it at the end of each term starting from the date of registration.
· The department council, depending on the supervising professor, forms a board consisting of the supervising professor(s) and two other ones. The first is of the branch of major and the second is of Islamic Sharea major for discussion and arbitration. However, the formulation of the board is adopted by the department council.
· The student is to discuss the thesis, he presented, openly or use the e-conference and the board gives its mutual report showing the result of discussion. The arbitration board can suggest one of these recommendations:
o Granting a degree in Islamic Economics.
o Granting a degree after some adjustments on the thesis.
o Not granting the degree, but recommending that the student should present his thesis again to be discussed after a period not less than a year on the condition that the discussion will take place again by the same board. |
